Abstract: | : | This presentation will focus on the emergence of IoT based cyber physical frameworks to support distributed collaboration in smart manufacturing specifically the assembly of micro devices The discussion of these frameworks is based on an information centric foundation, which can be viewed as a triumvirate: modeling, simulation and exchange of information. When engineering partners and resources are distributed, the creation of cyber physical frameworks holds the potential to enable collaborations involving a variety of cyber (software) and physical resources. The first part of this presentation will provide an overview of the implementation of the cyber physical life cycle for micro assembly. Automated robotic micro assembly work cells have been developed to support the cyber-physical manufacturing activities.. The second part of the presentation will provide a unique perspective on the role of Virtual and Mixed Reality environments as links between cyber and physical worlds using training contexts from the field of orthopedic surgery and potential astronaut interactions on the Lunar surface as part of NASA’s Moon Mission. |
