This event is for female students only, though the topic may have universal value. This is because there are unique challenges faced by women in these fields and this event aims at discussing these. Last year, I was invited to an ACM event at IIT Bombay targeted at female students in science and engineering to talk on the subject of "building confidence". This was largely an interactive discussion, in which we discussed whether there is evidence of gender discrimination in science, what are the particular challenges women face in these fields, issues relating to balancing expectations and professional/personal and what are some concrete ways in which to address these concerns. I received feedback that this discussion was very useful, and would like to have a similar discussion with our own students. Please come with as many questions as you like (as always). You are also welcome to bring along female students from other engineering departments. |
