Abstract: | : | With the proliferation of mobile devices, ubiquitous connectivity is becoming more and more desirable. Enterprise Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) technologies provide such connectivity in several environments. To provide seamless connectivity and communication, mobility management becomes an important aspect of such deployments. We propose SDEW, a Software Defined Networking (SDN) framework for enterprise WLANs. This framework will provide network programmability allowing the network administrators to deploy customized applications for utilizing the WLANs. To provide seamless connectivity and communication, we additionally propose three client-unaware mobility management mechanisms (for Non-NAT(1) and NAT(2) modes of the access points), which run on the proposed SDN based framework. The proposed mechanisms have been implemented in simulation and in a testbed environment, to provide validation of their feasibility. In both the implementations we show that the pro- posed mobility management mechanisms are able to achieve seamless handover and provide uninterrupted connectivity and communication to the mobile stations. |
